Netflix is once again making headlines, this time due to layoffs affecting its Public Relations team. Sources confirm that approximately ten employees in the series and film publicity areas were let go during a restructuring effort following the appointment of Natalie Bjelajac as VP of Domestic Publicity back in July.
Among those impacted is Jason Clark, the Director of Publicity, who had dedicated over seven years to the streaming giant. He took to Instagram to express his dismay, stating, “Getting laid off sucks, which has impacted many of my Netflix friends today and over the past months for many.”
Interestingly, these layoffs coincided with a significant announcement from Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria at the Bloomberg Screentime event, where he shared details about several new series pickups and renewals. This marks yet another turbulent chapter for Netflix, reflecting the broader struggles within the media industry amid challenging economic circumstances.
Earlier this year, in April, the company also laid off 15 employees in its film department during a previous reorganization when Dan Lin stepped in to replace Scott Stuber. The media landscape has seen a wave of significant layoffs across various companies, indicating a tough year ahead as businesses navigate financial pressures.
