Known for his strong relationships with industry journalists, Nelson has been a prominent figure at CBS since he began his tenure there in 2002. Before that, he spent seven years at NBC, where he excelled in charting ratings.
Chris Ender, the Executive Vice President and Head of Communications for CBS, expressed deep admiration for Nelson, stating that every communications leader would benefit from having someone like Mike on their team. Nelson started his career in the public relations sphere with the Golden State Warriors as an assistant director of media relations before making a pivotal shift to television in 1995. By 2002, he had taken on the role of spokesperson for KCBS, quickly climbing the corporate ladder within CBS.
One of his noteworthy contributions includes the creation of the KCAL Yule Log, a festive program that has become a holiday tradition since it first aired in 2004.
